1. Take Time To Understand The Question
This may sound like a no-brainer but the fact is that failing to properly understand the question set before you is the most common reason behind a disappointing grade when it comes to essay writing. Are you being asked to critically evaluate something? Compare and contrast? Analyse a particular circumstance? Evaluate the usefulness of a particular concept? Listen out for any cue words and follow suit with your proposed solution to the problem.
2. Break It Down
Outline the different actions you need like to take in order to fulfill the various aspects of your paper e.g. researching, taking notes, collecting data, editing & proofreading.
3. Plan & Schedule
Once you have a clear breakdown insert deadlines and follow suite to make efficient use of the available time.
4. Read & Research Widely [i.e. What We Do]Writing is key, but research is extremely important. Before you start writing your essay, conduct a broad search for relevant literature (and where applicable, data). This enables you to get a better understanding of how to approach the topic and forms the basis of your 'defense' or reasoning.
Apply critical thinking. This is simply lending your personal (but objective) perspective to the answer in light of the research obtained. Towards this end, you'll also take time to ensure that the paper is coherent i.e. follows an organized and logical thought pattern.Critical thinking is what will make your essay stand out.
